Piney Creek Preserve

The Piney Creek Preserve is a 613-acre natural area located near Beckley, West Virginia, managed by the West Virginia Land Trust (WVLT). The preserve offers approximately miles of recreational trails for hiking and biking, set amidst the scenic Piney Creek Gorge.

Waterfall Hollow Trail

  • Distance: Approximately 0.5 miles

  • Highlights: Features Little Whitestick Falls and Cranberry Creek Cascades, both of which are part of the West Virginia Department of Tourism’s Waterfall Trail.

Cranberry Creek Outlook Trail

  • Distance: Approximately 0.8 miles

  • Highlights: Offers panoramic views of the Piney Creek Gorge and includes benches for resting. This trail was developed with support from the Beckley Area Foundation and local students.

Stanaford Grove – Coming in 2026!

Get ready for an exciting addition to Piney Creek Preserve! A one-mile mountain biking loop opens in 2026, featuring some of the best singletrack in the New River Gorge. Another four miles of trail are already planned for the next phase of development.
